Description

Alyssa Wagner has been working within the Dayton Latino community for eight years as a medical interpreter and as the program director for El Puente Educational Center, an after-school tutoring program for K-6th grade Latino students learning English as their second language. Most recently, her work has led her to the Archdiocese of Cincinnati’s Catholic Schools Office as the Coordinator for Latino Outreach for Dayton. Her work focuses on the areas of recruitment of Latino families for Catholic schools, parent engagement, early literacy initiatives with Spanish-speaking families, and professional development for teachers and administrators to help establish a deeper understanding of Latino culture and to create a welcoming, engaging environment for Latino families. The underlying mission of her work is to create a bridge between Latino families and schools so that parents can be in the driver’s seat of their children’s education, and to help smooth the transition for both families and teachers.
