Paul Laurence Dunbar, A Starry Night
(1917-1995) Ulysses Simpson Kay attended the University of Arizona for his undergraduate degree and went to the Eastman School of Music for his graduate work, where he studied under Howard Hanson and Bernard Rogers. Later, for a formative year of study, he followed Paul Hindemith to Yale. He also studied at Columbia University. Kay was able to play the piano, violin, and saxophone. Also, he taught at Lehman College and was named Distinguished Professor of music there. Lastly, he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Arizona at Tucson and at Illinois Wesleyan University.
