Along with the scholarly presentations, the MACI conference will include a screening of the film, March of the Gods, on Thursday, November 6th at 8pm at the Kennedy Union Ballroom on the University of Dayton campus. This film examines the metal scene in the African nation of Bostwana through the story the band Wrust. Following the film there will be a discussion with Edward Banks, the researcher for the film. Admission is free for conference attendees.

Brian Hickam
On Friday, November 7th at 7pm, Professor Brian Hickam of Benedictine University will host an art exhibit entitled, “Masked Performance: Facepaint, Head Coverings, and Masks in 21st Century Popular Culture.”

Professor Hickam will give a brief introduction to the exhibit and attendees will then have the opportunity to peruse the art. The exhibit is housed on the 2nd floor gallery of Roesch Library on the University of Dayton campus. Admission is free for conference attendees.








Alex SkolnickThe conference will conclude on Saturday, November 8th with a 9pm concert at Oddbody’s Music Room in Dayton. Featuring regional Ohio bands selected by Alex Skolnick, virtuoso guitarist of legendary thrash metal band Testament, as well as the Alex Skolnick Trio.

Admission for the concert is $10, payable only at the door the evening of the concert. All ticket proceeds for the event benefit two charities, the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund and Project READ.
