Abstract
Three civil engineering students from the University of Dayton travelled to the village of Boa Bakundu in rural Cameroon, West Africa in summer 2009. The students ventured to Cameroon as part of the University’s Engineers in Technical and Humanitarian Opportunities of Service-learning (ETHOS) program. Over a two month period the students worked hand-in-hand with villagers and a local engineer to realize the goal of clean piped water for the village. The engineers conducted surveys, dug trenches, placed pipe, tested the system, and created an estimate for the next phase of the project while living in Boa Bakundu. The project was a great success. Villagers are now enjoying clean piped water thanks to the hard work of the engineering students and villagers themselves.
