Abstract
A team of two engineers travelled to Mysore, India arriving in the early summer of 2016 and stayed for ten weeks. The engineers partnered with a local non-governmental organization to develop a technology that would improve the livelihoods of the Organization for the Development of People (ODP)’s target population. After researching the needs of the population as well as meeting with the leaders of ODP the engineers decided to create a passive solar dryer capable of drying and preserving a variety of fruits and vegetables. The technology was designed to be accessible to rural farmers in small communities. A prototype was created and improvements and alternatives were also considered and discussed by the engineers. Testing was not thoroughly completed, however a testing protocol was provided should any future individuals working with ODP wish to test the design.
