Abstract

The team spent the summer of 2019 in La Paz, Boliva. They were tasked with the early stages of designing an irrigation system for the rural community of Apohoco. Their main goal was to determine if the springs were viable sources and in total provided enough water to expand the current irrigated land. They interviewed members of the community to determine the amount of water necessary to provide a significant increase in crop production. The community members were on average producing 1-2 types of crops per season and had harvested just enough to provide food for their family for the year. The increase in irrigated land will provide a stable source of income for each family. After analyzing the topographic, they determined that the best course of action is to drill a well to create one combined water source.
