Abstract
Three University of Dayton students travelled to Buea, Cameroon for the 2011 ETHOS immersion program. The main role of the students was to be technical workers for Nkong Hill Top, an NGO based out of Buea, helping to improve the water supply shortage of the area. The first task the students took on was to test various water sources in both the Great Soppo, Buea area and the village of M’muock (also in Cameroon). Furthermore, the students surveyed both Great Soppo and M’muock using a leveller and GPS, respectively. The results showed that Great Soppo had acidic rain water and therefore the best solution to the supply problem was to design and build a gravity fed pump system; the students created the design. Additionally, the rain water of M’muock was the best source the students found in their results, so rainwater catchment systems were explained and encouraged by the students.
