Abstract
The students worked with two different organizations in Nicaragua which had a relationship with one another. The students were assigned to work with Grupo Fenix which was a department of Universidad de Ingenieria, (University of Engineering) a public university in Managua, Nicaragua. The goal of Grupo Fenix was the development of renewable energy technology as well as the application of renewable technologies for use in Nicaragua and other parts of Central America. Through Grupo Fenix, the students were placed with a private company based in Managua, Nicaragua called Suni Solar. Suni was founded by Dr. Richard Komp President of SunWatt Corporation, a renewable energy company based in Maine. Suni Solar’s business model was based around installing solar systems in the rural regions of Nicaragua which had no other access to electricity at the most inexpensive price possible. It was with these two organizations which our time was spent while in Nicaragua.
