Abstract
The team was tasked with modifying a large format custom delta 3D printer to print earth-based composites using existing technologies and softwares. Michael and Peter outfitted the machine with an extruder capable of printing these composites, adapted the machine’s existing firmware, created slicer settings to both run and optimize machine performance with the new printhead, and began minimal experimentation with composite ratios and materials testing. Along with creating an operational machine, the team also wrote a comprehensive manual which details all that is necessary to operate, troubleshoot, maintain, and modify the machine for future use. Due to this work, materials and structural testing of the 3D prints continued to be done at the conclusion of the team’s ETHOS immersion.
