Abstract
In the summer of 2016, Caitlyn Ohradzansky along with two other University of Dayton students completed technical engineering jobs on the island of Dominica in the Caribbean. Caitlyn’s time in Dominica was split up into two separate projects, one working as an intern at a local manufacturing company called Jolly’s Manufacturing, and another working with coconut oil and other coconut by-products. This technical report will focus on the first half of the summer immersion working in Jolly’s Manufacturing. Caitlyn’s goal with Jolly’s was to make major strides in the standardization of the production process of Jolly’s pharmaceutical products. These strides were made by the creation of various quality standards and reports such as a quality manual, a reformation in the factory layout, templates for certificates of analysis and standard operating procedures, and the beginning of an inventory system. Caitlyn was able to confirm success of this goal through the progress measured by an outside organization. The Bureau of Standards of Dominica conducted evaluations of the production process prior to Caitlyn’s arrival as well as at the end of the five-week instalment where Jolly’s was able to meet multiple requirements not met prior to Caitlyn’s time at the factory.
