Abstract
The main function of this trip was to serve in a supporting role for various ongoing projects at Fundación Ingenieros en Acción (FIEA). FIEA is part of Engineers in Action (EIA) and oversees projects in Bolivia and Ecuador. The main office for the Ecuador branch is based in Quito. The projects being worked on this past summer were in the following communities: San Ramon, Agua Fria, Pasto Calle, Guangaje, and Manabi. Each project was at a different stage and required different resources and tasks to be completed. San Ramon involved two short trips to gather social and topographic data to allow an appropriate design to be created and presented to the community in early August. Agua Fria had one trip to organize the upcoming implementation. This implementation will occur the first week of August and will involve construction of a rain catchment system. Pasto Calle had an implementation trip in May and had a second trip in June, but the implementation caused many issues to be brought up by the community. Since then several meetings have been held and a solution is still being sought out. Guangaje required a design review submitted by the team in the US. The review raised several questions and concerns about the design and will lead to further discussion prior to any implementation trips. Manabi includes a few communities all of which only required a short meeting to start planning for upcoming trips.
