Abstract
San Ramon is a small rural community located in the Parroquía Perucho G.A.D. and within the province of Pichincha. It is a mountainous area and resembles the common climate and terrain of Ecuador’s highland region. The community consists of around 11 houses and the primary occupation of its residents involves agriculture. While the community has access to potable and irrigation water and electricity, the community lacks sufficient wastewater infrastructure for all of its residents.
The Parroquía de Perucho and San Ramon asked Fundación Ingenieros en Acción to prepare a design for a sustainable wastewater solution for the people of San Ramon. After performing social and technical surveys of the area and evaluating the appropriate alternatives for the specific situation of San Ramon, FIEA chose to pursue a distributed treatment solution for San Ramon revolving around nine treatment clusters. This report presents the information collected by FIEA, the alternatives considered, and the final design chosen by FIEA to provide effective and sustainable wastewater management for the people of San Ramon.
