Abstract

During the ten week period of May 31 through August 10, Kenneth Stapp volunteered at the Instituto Chaminade Marianistas in Callao, Peru as part of the ETHOS program at the University of Dayton. During this time the student provided technical support with the maintenance of the school’s computers and successfully deployed a proxy server for the school’s laboratories using the Linux operating system. This required the installation and configuration of the firewall and network routing using the Iptables of the free and open-source Linux, and the configuration of the network services of DHCP (dynamic host configuration protocol), bind (a domain name system resolver), and squid (a web cache and transparent proxy server), also free and open-source.
