Abstract

Students travelled to Long Branch Environmental Center in the heart of Appalachia. Located specifically in western North Carolina, the center is mainly an organic farm with a small group of volunteer workers founded in 1974. Technical work was quite limited but students were able to construct a large tent platform, assist in foundation work for a cord wood structure along with building a solar cooker from an obsolete refrigerator. Work with managing organic crops was also part of the work scheme at the environmental center.
