Abstract

A civil engineering student from the University of Dayton traveled to Roseau, Dominica during the summer of 2016. The student spent ten weeks on the island, and collaborated between three organizations: Carib Sand and Stone, a government funded tropical storm relief housing project, and McKenzie Architectural and Construction (MAC) Services Inc. A preliminary concrete anchor system was designed for Carib Sand and Stone. Unfortunately, funding was not available for the proposed anchor project to proceed past the preliminary design. The role of project manager was observed for both the government-funded housing project and MAC Services. To avoid redundancy, construction observed from the government housing project and MAC Services will be discussed as one unit, referred to as Concrete Construction. The various housing projects were on schedule to be completed by their respective end date, and no outstanding issues arose.
