Abstract
My motivation is to understand employee interpretations of current barriers existing in recruiting and efforts to retain a diverse workforce. To generate support from organizational leadership, the output benefits from a deeper understanding of the barriers to growing and sustaining a diverse workforce were clearly defined. This outcome informed the development of a healthier strategy geared towards diversifying the workforce by way of improved hiring practices. The hiring teams’ approach to current hiring practices must be removed from their behaviors and mindsets and re-framed, developed and initiated into a new way of building towards a more diverse environment and culture, removing any pre-determined stances that look for individuals who resemble the team they are directly hiring for.
