Why the honoree chose the book

The normative role of the media is the foundation of my identity as a professor and journalist. This book, written by some of the preeminent scholars in media ethics, explicates the role of journalism in democratic societies, including the philosophical underpinnings and political realities of the relationships between the press, citizens and government. I’ve cited this book in almost everything I’ve ever published, and I’ve used readings from the book in several of my classes.
