Why the honoree chose the book
This novel struck me as a powerful and unsettling story of faith, doubt, and moral ambiguity, confronting the silence of God, the complexity of apostasy, and the cultural tensions between East and West. I read it during a time when I was earnestly seeking God's truth in my own faith, and it offered a deeply human portrayal of spiritual struggle that compelled me to reflect on the cost of belief and the vulnerability of conviction.
