Why the honoree chose the book
As an emerging sociologist of religion, I was confronted with the false narrative that "Blacks aren't Catholic," while there are millions. Later, I encountered Dr. Tia Pratt at a professional meeting when she was a grad student and we served on a panel together. It struck me that that she was going to make a great contribution, and I am happy to have my name on the bookplate for this important book.
