Why the honoree chose the book
Although I profoundly disagree with so much that is written in this book, it, like no other, inspired me to be a lifelong learner. The Republic raises so many profound questions about our world, human nature and justice, and it does so in a way that is still relevant and accessible to people over 2,000 years later. I don't think I would be the same person today if I had not read this book over a quarter-century ago.
