The front of this card has a reproduction of the Raphael (1483-1520) painting 'Madonna della seggiola,' sometimes known as 'Madonna della sedia' or Madonna of the Chair. The painting shows Mary holding the Child Jesus while Saint John the Baptist looks on in adoration. The back of the card has an inscription commemorating the ordination and first solemn mass of Father Sylvester Eye in April 1937. The card was printed by an unknown German publisher with the abbreviation L.B.R.

Madonna della sedia. (front) To Thee, Lord Jesus, in gratitude I entrust all those who have helped me to Thy Holy Altar. Sylvester J. Eye Ordination First Solemn Mass April 3-4 1937 Pray for me 'O almighty and merciful God, Who has called this priest to the service of Thy altar, listen graciously to our humble prayers, that supported by Thy grace, he may become more--and more worthy of his vocation, and that Thou wilt deign to bless and sanctify all his works. Through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, Amen.' (back)
