Abstract
In order to understand the role of α, β, γ resins present in a Solmer tar, various techniques of separation (filtration and decantation) were used. The different fractions obtained from all the processes were studied by Optical Microscopy and by Transmission Electron Microscopy using a thin sectioning method. The β resins have an important role because, under stress, they are able to form flow preferred orientations of aromatic units (edge to edge associations of aromatic ring structures), which constitute a determinant factor in all the processes.
