Ed Sarath is a professor of music at the University of Michigan and director of the UM Program in Creativity and Consciousness Studies; he is active as a performer, composer, recording artist, and scholar. Founder and president of the International Society for Improvised Music, he is the author of Black Music Matters: Jazz and the Transformation of Music Studies (Rowman and Littlefield 2018).
