Department Chair: Shuang-ye Wu, Ph.D.
The Department of Earth and Environmental Geosciences offers a bachelor's degree in Earth and environmental geosciences; minors in Earth and environmental geosciences and geographic information systems; and a GIS graduate certificate. It has a fully renovated laboratory, technology-rich classroom facilities and diverse opportunities for collaboration with faculty both on-campus and in a wide variety of exciting field locales. Students have accompanied faculty to Australia, China, Iceland, the Canadian Rockies, and various areas in the mountains of both the eastern and the western United States. We also offer a summer field course in the central Rocky Mountains of Colorado.
The department stresses quality teaching for undergraduate students with an emphasis on preparation for further study of Earth and environmental geosciences at the graduate level. In addition to field work, upperclass students have many opportunities to work closely with faculty through lab teaching and research assistant positions.
