Abstract
High teacher absenteeism has been a problem at Blue Ponds Elementary School due to high stress levels. The purpose of this study was to identify the stressors of elementary school teachers in a rural school setting and then to develop an action plan to mitigate the stressors. A mixed-methods approach was used by conducting 11 teacher interviews and administering two quantitative surveys. Data collected identified stressors that include teacher behaviors, administrative decisions, state regulations, and outside factors such as parents. An action plan was developed around three main stressors identified after comparing the data collected from the teacher interviews and the surveys administered.
