Abstract
This study aims to identify gaps in leadership education, training, and skills to inform relevant professional development for leaders in my current organization. Literature on leadership competencies, action learning and reflection in developing leaders, leadership developed through formal and informal learning, and tuition reimbursement provides the foundation for this study. A phenomenological approach using an exploratory sequential design was employed to analyze the collected qualitative data. From the study, five themes emerged: Components of Effective Leadership, Components of Ineffective Leadership, Knowledge of Organizational Tuition Assistance, Whether or Not Leadership Training Has Been Provided, and Future Leadership Training Topics. These themes enabled the researcher to develop an action plan grounded in transformational and democratic leadership theories and in Fullan’s Change Model to improve organizational leadership.
