Human Rights Center
Professor and Executive Director: Natalie Florea Hudson, Ph.D.
The Human Rights Center creates a positive change through research, education and dialogue. At the heart of a global human rights community, we are committed to bridging the gap between theory and practice, between scholars and practitioners.
Projects supported by the Human Rights Center integrate interdisciplinary academic and experiential learning with human rights and rights-based research and advocacy outcomes. These multifaceted projects are undertaken with partner organizations to enable students to gain and apply learning to human rights and development practice at home and abroad.
Key initiatives of the Center aim to bridge the gap between theory and practice, between scholars and practitioners. By drawing scholars, practitioners, and top-notch organizations to the University, the Center catalyzes critical reflection and innovation in the field of human rights, and celebrates institutions and individuals who have significantly contributed to combating injustice.
The Center creates an enabling environment for faculty, students and partners to engage in transdisciplinary research for and about human rights advocacy and education. A range of targeted fellowships, scholarships and affiliations provide opportunities for deepening applied knowledge, experience and evidence in the field of human rights and rights-based development across the University.
Human rights education lies at the heart of the Center’s and the University of Dayton’s mission. The Center supports human rights academic programs through the nation’s first undergraduate human rights minor and major in the College of Arts and Sciences as well as academic collaborations throughout the professional schools of the University.
