Photographs from the John Stokes and Mary's Gardens collection include images of Mary's Gardens (based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), the Mary Garden movement in the United States, Catholic garden statues, Catholic and Marian gardens, plants, and flowers, and other events and individuals associated with Mary's Gardens. Mr. Stokes co-founded Mary's Gardens in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1951. He was central in the movement to promote education and interest in Catholic and Marian symbolism of plants and flowers.
