This collection, a collaboration with the United States Forest Service (USFS), contains the sample data of over 60 white oak trees from Vinton Furnace Experimental Forest, Vinton County, Ohio. The study highlights two sites from the forest — Arch Rock and Watch Rock.
The data collection includes dendrochronological information such as fire scar information and growth ring information, which point to historic forest dynamic trends as well as current oak forest management angles. The data also includes the ages and geographic coordinates of each tree. Trees were cut down in 2005. Samples had their rings counted in 2005 and were measured in 2022. Data reveals how different periods of anthropogenic activity seemingly affected forest dynamics through both fire occurrence and tree growth releases.
About the data:
- Column A: Year
- Column B and onward: Measurements of tree rings in millimeters; sample title appears in row 1
- Measurements taken using a Velmex Unislide and the Tellervo software application.
