Abstract
Johnson Electric, an electronic-components manufacturer in Vandalia, Ohio, used simulation to understand the trade-offs between work-in-process inventory (WIP), work-flow balance, and product throughput. Based on the results of our simulation model, Johnson Electric implemented changes in two identical manufacturing cells; these changes improved product throughput by 31 percent and labor productivity by 37 percent.
