Stations of the Cross: Óscar Romero

In this series of prints in the Marian Library’s collection, an artist reimagines the Stations of the Cross with the martyred Salvadoran Archbishop St. Óscar Romero and the Salvadoran Civil War in place of Jesus and the path to his crucifixion and the Resurrection. Romero's opposition to violence in El Salvador and his defense of the poor led to his assassination on March 24, 1980, while celebrating Mass at a hospital. Each station is captioned with a Spanish title and biblical quote. The artist of this series is unknown, as are the dates of creation; the illustrations were likely created in El Salvador.
