Abstract
A student at Roth Middle School wonders if people nationwide support Singapore's recent caning of teen Michael Fay and if they believe physical punishment reduces crime. A science fair participant doubts his results showing cooking oil is less buoyant than tap water. Students at MacFarlane Middle School are baffled by an optical illusion that occurs when they stare at a black-and-white design and seek scientific reasons for the visual trickery. For responses, they tum to the Dayton Science Network, which puts Dayton students and teachers in touch with students, educators, scientists, engineers and other professionals throughout the nation.
