Abstract

Robert Colescott earned international recognition at the 1997 Venice Biennale exhibition, where he was the first African-American artist ever to be represented at the event. Colescott will share the history of his art in a slide presentation at 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, in Boll Theatre of Kennedy Union on the University of Dayton campus. His speech is the final event of the 1997-98 Arts Series. The exclusion of blacks from the history of Western art and common stereotypes about African-Americans are often the focus of Colescott's paintings.
