Abstract

Mara Lohrstorfer has been described as a rebuilder of dreams with a "strong sense of compassion." But the University of Dayton graduate student, who two years ago created a campus-based education program to help local prisoners move forward with their lives, says she is humbled by such praise. In 1998, she founded Prisoner Action Group for Educational Services (P.A.G.E.S.), an outreach literacy program that recruits UD students to tutor inmates at the Montgomery County Jail. In recognition of that effort, she will receive Project Read's 1998 Grimmy Outstanding Volunteer Award.
