Dear Sir
Your Mother wishing to send you a few lines that you may not be ansicous [sic] on her account she wishes me to say she is quite well but very

dull and will be glad to have you home again still if you can make anything besides your board with miss Mabby all means except her offer but she wishes you to come home and make some arrangements
Mr Stephen’s has inquired

about you and is proud of your success
Your Mother will give Carrie her portion when she sees her I am spending the afternoon with your Mother a gentleman of your acquaintance has called and we are having a very comfortable time

This item is part of the Paul Laurence Dunbar House collection at Ohio History Connection, Columbus, Ohio. The collection contains items from 219 N. Summit St., Dayton, Ohio (later 219 N. Paul Laurence Dunbar St.), the home Dunbar purchased for his mother, Matilda J. Dunbar, in 1904. Paul Laurence Dunbar lived there until his death in 1906; Matilda lived there until her death in 1934. It is now the Paul Laurence Dunbar House Historic Site, part of the National Park Service.
