Abstract
In spring 2021, teacher candidates were invited to join a book club outside of regular academic commitments. Eight undergraduate and graduate students across licensure areas in teacher education met to read four memoirs of social justice advocates. In conversation, students positioned themselves as teachers, as advocates, as recipients of Catholic education, as knowers and as individuals in the many intersectional ways that identity influences their life experiences. These conversations contribute to the literature in critical literacy and teacher positionality.
