Why the honoree chose the book
Data-driven decision-making is central in my research as a social psychologist. When I was pregnant with my daughter, I became keenly aware of how many “rules” for pregnancy — from limits on caffeine to which position to sleep in — lacked supporting data. A friend and fellow data nerd recommended Expecting Better. Oster’s deep dives into data regarding pregnancy “rules” impacted how I made decisions while pregnant as well as how I subsequently approached research questions.
