Why the honoree chose the book
Alice Wong' s collection of essays is the culmination of the Disability Visibility project, a storytelling project that she developed during the years that I was completing my second book, Hell Hath No Fury. I read this book with my students in the course Foundations of Disability Studies, and I emphasize the role of storytelling in all of my courses. The stories in this collection have shaped my thinking and my students' and do the critical work of placing disabled persons in the speaking center.
