Why the honoree chose the book
Painter and Coleman do an excellent job of summarizing a lot of information about polymer science in a short space, in plain English, and with some humor. Their first edition, Fundamentals of Polymer Science: An Introductory Text (1998), is perhaps even better, but the 2009 textbook has a lot of great color photos, illustrations, and stories.
