Why the honoree chose the book
Tabletop role-play has been instrumental in my development as an information literacy professional, going all the way back to the basements and after-school board game clubs of my youth. As a player in one of these games, you're often dealing with hidden information, applying unique expertise and authority to navigate uncertain environments, and asking a whole lot of questions that then lead to more, deeper questions. As an instruction librarian, I think often about what it means to strategically explore an information "dungeon" and how I can help empower each student to recognize and activate their own arsenal of skills, knowledge, and abilities that will allow them to uniquely tackle any problem they might encounter.
