Why the honoree chose the book
Butler was revelatory for me in thinking about why I needed to take action on climate change, depicting a slow-motion apocalypse punctuated with moments of terrifying downhill slides. More importantly, it continues to help me stay aware of the limits of law in a time when the social contract begins to fall apart and the need for its continuous renewal.
