Why the honoree chose the book
This book provides an engaging view of the remarkable development of statistical methods over the years and how these tools have been applied to various practical problems. Salsburg explains the history using actual letters written by some of these pioneers and describes personal interactions he had with a handful of these individuals. An extensive statistical background is not required to appreciate and understand what is written, but readers who have taken at least a course or two in basic statistics will recognize many concepts explained with graceful clarity by the author.
