Set in 1938 amidst the rise of nationalism, The Sound of Music is a story of being true to one’s authentic self in the face of social and religious division. Maria is a novitiate who struggles with the constriction of her religious order, and is sent to be a governess for the widowed Captain Von Trapp’s seven children. While the Captain faces growing pressure to ally himself with the Nazi party, Maria and the children bond through their shared love of music. The Captain and Maria, drawn together by circumstance, build a family and find the strength to forge a new path together.
