Abstract
This study is a challenge to the traditional conquest narrative that presents the conquest of the Caribbean Island of Puerto Rico as a quick and easy affair. Through the summary and analysis of the Probanza of Juan González, a testimonial document from 1532, it concludes that rather than a quick and easy victory, the Conquest of Puerto Rico was a brutal and drawn-out affair.
