Description
Painting of a woman spinning by Nicolaes Maes (a.k.a. Maas), who was a Dutch painter born in Dordrecht. A painter of the Golden Age, he worked mostly with genre and portraits. When he was in his mid-teens, he traveled to Amsterdam where he worked in Rembrandt’s studio. His finest period was from 1655 to 1665 when he worked in smaller scale genre works. His works are found in museums and private collections around the world. Maes died in Amsterdam in 1693.
