Description
This print, depicting one spider hanging from a spiderweb, was made by a copper plate etching process. Copper plates were covered with a resist (asphaltum varnish), the design traced on, then scribed through the resist. The copper plate was then placed in an acid bath to etch the lines. The resist was removed, plate polished, inked and heated before being wiped and placed on the press bed. Dampened etching paper was then placed over the plate and rolled through the press. Joan M. Saiberlich Bohlig was born in Appleton, Wisconsin. She earned a BS degree in Art Education from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and an MFA from Alfred University, Alfred, NY. Joan has maintained her own art studio/gallery since 1963 doing etching, oil painting, collage, and illustrating several books. She is represented in collections across American, in Europe, Asia, and Africa. The text around the image reads, "Such are the paths of all who forget God; the hope of the Godless man shall perish. His confidence breaks in sunder and his trust is a spider's web." Job 8:13, 14 RSV This print is number 23 out of an edition of 100.
