Memorial card marking the death of the Right Reverend Mathias Mary Gerend, a domestic prelate and rector of the St. John's Institute for Deaf-Mutes in St. Francis, Wisconsin. The front of the card has a photograph of Father Gerend and a prayer for the repose of his soul. The back of the card has biographical information about Gerend. Both sides have a purple border. O God, Who hast adorned Thy servant Mathias with the sacerdotal dignity amongst apostolic Priests, grant, we beseech Thee, that he may be associated with them also in everlasting fellowship. Through Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Amen. (front) In Pious Memory of The Right Reverend Mathias Mary Gerend. Domestic Prelate of His Holiness, Pius XI. A Father and Friend to the Deaf. Rector of St. John's Institute for Deaf-Muts (1889-1938). Born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin June 17, 1858. Ordained to the Sacred Priesthood June 26, 1881. Died fortified with the Holy Sacraments at St. John's Institute for Deaf-Mutes St. Francis, Wisconsin April 26, 1938. May He Rest In Peace. (back)
