Description
An angel places a wreath, possibly of olive leaves, upon a tomb in a church graveyard. The tombstone is a large cross, decorated with a crown of thorns and a white drape. A church is visible in the background. Below the illustration are verses in Dutch and French. The back of the card has an inscription memorializing the death of Marie-Josèphe Istace, a woman who passed away in 1885 in Arsimont-Auvelais, Belgium. The inscription features a prayer and quotations by Saint Ambrose, Saint Catherine of Sienna, and Saint John Berchmans. This card was printed by the Antwerp printer, Van Os-De Wolf; the back was printed by a local Belgian printer, H. Scoyer et Companie, in Auvelais.

In den Hemel alleen is Rust. Au Ciel seul regne la Paix. (front) Nos jours passent comme l'ombre sur la terre. Souvenir Pieux. Priez pour le repos de l'àme de Madame Marie-Josèphe Istace, veuve de Monsieur Nicolas Salingros, pieusement décédée à Arsimont-Auvelais, le 2 Septembre 1885, à l'âge de 82 ans, administrée des Sacraments de Notre Mère la Sainte-Église. La vieillesse est une couronne d'honneur, lors-qu'elle se trouve dans la voie de la justice. Bonne épouse, excellente mère, amie sincère et dévouée, supportant avec patience ses souffrances et sa longue maladie, compatissante envers les malheureux, elle emporte dans la tombe les larmes et les regrets de tous ceux qui l'ont connue. Adieu, chers enfants, qui m'avez entourée de tant de soins; Dieu m'appelle a lui, que sa sainte volonté s'accomplisse. (St-Ambroise). Consolez-vous donc, vous tous qui m'étiez si chers, j'abandonne une terre de misères pour le royaume de la paix. (Ste Cath. de Sienne).
