Description

According to the donor, the OW was the last plane developed by Orville Wright and was one of the first if not the first cabin-type plane built. In the manuscript of his memoir, Bernard L. Whelan wrote that it was a biplane of 46-foot wingspan; weight empty approximately 1,452 pounds; gross weight approximately 2,500 pounds. It had a capacity for three passengers and a pilot plus baggage. Pilot and passengers were seated in the single cabin, the pilot being in a center position forward, the three passengers on a bench-type seat to the rear of the pilot. Upholstery lined the cabin, and the enclosed configuration reduced engine noise for pilot and passengers.
