Biographical Information
(b. 1961) Jake Heggie studied at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with the pianist Johana Harris. His early study of composition was under Ernst Bacon and later Roger Bourland, Paul Des Marais, David Raksin, and Paul Reale. In 1998, he was a composer-in-residence to the San Francisco Opera. He has had commissions from the Metropolitan Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Dallas Opera, San Francisco Opera, Music of Remembrance, Ravinia Festival, Wigmore Hall, and the University of North Texas. The music of Jake Heggie has been performed internationally and recorded by such noted singers as sopranos Renée Fleming, Sylvia McNair, Dawn Upshaw, and Carol Vaness; mezzo-sopranos Frederica von Stade, Susan Graham and Jennifer Larmore; countertenor Brian Asawa; and baritone Thomas Hampson.
